Taking a Line for a Walk – Innovative Etching

Weekend course West Yorkshire Print Workshop
Saturday 9th / Sunday 10th May 2015

Join our 2014 Flourish Award winner for an exciting weekend workshop, which will focus on breaking the conventions of ‘traditional’ etching. This course will run alongside Michelle’s solo exhibition, ‘Still Navigating’, here at the WYPW gallery.
Working with drypoint and etching techniques, you will explore drawing using brushes and unorthodox mark-making tools. Tactile and sculptural marks can be produced by layering liquid ‘ground’ or wax onto a plate to act as a ‘resist’ or ‘stop-out’ to the etching solution.  The zinc and aluminium plates are then etched multiple times using a solution of copper sulphate, to build up your image in layers. Spontaneous mark-making and ‘open bite’ lines will be explored and printed, often producing beautiful abstract compositions.
All are welcome on this course, whether experienced or complete beginner. The only requirements are an experimental approach and an open mind!
